Scoliosis

The team specializing in the treatment of scoliosis at the Special Hospital for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Neurology was formed in February 2022. The team is comprised of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialists, an Orthopedic Specialist, Physiotherapist, and an Orthotic Specialist. The team works every Wednesday. The team coordinator is Sanja Dimitrijević, DMSc, who completed multiple courses at the ISST Institute in Germany on Schroth’s therapy, specializing in the non–surgical treatment of spinal deformities. She further advanced her knowledge in this field at the ISICO Institute in Milan, Italy, learning about the spinal column from renowned experts from around the world.

Scoliosis is a complex three–dimensional spinal deformity that most commonly occurs during periods of rapid growth and development (adolescent idiopathic scoliosis), but it can also be associated with neurological disorders, including cerebral palsy (neuromuscular scoliosis). Currently, the treatment of scoliosis includes physiotherapeutic exercises, wearing a brace or surgery.

Scoliosis before and after

We are proud to have a team of physicians, physiotherapists, and orthotic specialists who are educated on Schroth’s method of non–surgical treatment of scoliosis. The treatment of patients is conducted in accordance with the current guidelines determined by the International Society on Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT).
